Nordeste is located east of Ponta Delgada and Vila Franca do Campo most of its interior is covered forests, mountainous peaks and river-valleys.
The Nordeste is well known for its greenery and the beautiful flowers like hydrangeas or azaleas that adorn the roads of the county.
Here is located the Pico da Vara, the highest point of the island of São Miguel.
Priolo, endemic bird of the island, finds here its habitat.
You can find in Nordeste the natural park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões located along part of the watercourse of the Ribeira do Guilherme, in the parish of Achada county Northeast, the Azorean island of Sao Miguel.
